Question Brake light / Stay step holder help!

Ok so Ill start by saying Im a rookie at fixing bikes. Wrecked my bike a couple months back and working on putting it back together. Its an 09' Ninja 250R.
Today I replaced the right stay step holder. First problem.. there are 2 springs behind it.. on big one wich i connected to the nob with the groove..looked like it was suppose to go there. Not sure. Second is that long spring that hangs down from the cylinder with the wire comming out of it. i cannot find were that spring is suppose to connect to...also my break light wont work when rear brake is pressed..is that the spring that i cant find where it hooks to?? I pulled on the spring pretty hard and break light didnt come on so Im going to assume its not that... Also please be indepth I have no idea what the parts are called on my bike haha.

I can't recall where it goes so here's a link to the parts diagram.

Unfortunately my bike is 1300 miles away or I would check mine out; however, my rear brake doesn't activate the light as the switch is disconnected due to rearsets. Who uses the rear brake anyway

Maybe some kind soul on here can walk out to their garage and check their bike out to help this young man
