Erratic carb behavior please help.

ok bought a ninja for $350 needed a key. Cleaned carbs checked floats etc.. Hit ignition sure thing fired right up. I put pod filters on it. However it idles very erraticlly. It will run smooth then all of sudden shoot to around 5k rpm then fall back down to 2k. Then run at 2k rpm just sitting there then shoot up to 5-6k rpm just sitting there. What am i missing it acts like a vaccum issue but everything is hooked up for vaccum wise. Any help would be nice

Did you change the main jet size after putting on pods?
Did you synch the carbs?
Did you do a valve adjustment?
Is the idle mixture correct?

If the idle hangs, or is hunting, you'll need to get that corrected, as that's a symptom of another problem. You may have idle mixture or valve adjustment troubles. Poor idle is a give-away of valves being out of adjustment.

huh no i left jets in they were 114 mains and 38 pilot jets.air screw was moved in then counted out to 6 turns thinking that may be to much. Also i have a sync tool but its not a mercury one just the gauges where does it hook into.

First 114 mains are way too big for the CV carbs on this bike unless you're running some high comp pistons with no filter and some timing advance. Main jets between 108 and 112 are the norm.

6 turns out on the pilot is way too many. Start at 2.5 turns out and see how it idles turning in 1/4 turn out increments.

ride on i thought those where way to much however like i said ive got pod filters and theres a yoshi exhaust on it. so i should go down to like a 108-110 and start at 2 1/2 out for seat on air fuel.
