Exclamation Gas cap is stuck! Please help!!

Ok. So I bought this bike and come to find out, the gas cap is stuck! It's not the locking mechanism because the lock turns and you can tell that it is unlocked. I don't know what to do. The bike is useless if I can't put gas in it. Any suggestions? Also...it may help to know that it was sitting and not being ridden for quite some time. I had to have quite a bit of standard maintenance done to it before I could ride it. It is a 2007 Kawasaki ninja 250r.

You should be able to use an allen wrench and take off the whole thing since you can already unlock it. Like Gabe said, the gas cap should have allen screws all the way around it. You could also try gently sticking a flathead screwdriver in there and try to pry it open

the first thing that I would do is spray around it with WD40. You never know if the hinges are just stuck

Prevent?

Ok. I will try out your suggestions. How do I keep it from happening again?

try some WD40. Stuff works wonders on metals that are stuck

when I first bought my bike, my passenger begs wouldn't budge, sprayed them up and down and now they'll move up because of the vibration of the engine

Not really, but it made a huge difference

Smile I'll let you know

I'm going to get it open today... I'm determined! I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your help. It's hard enough to get people to accept a girl rider much less one that can't even put gas in her bike. Lol thanks again. :-)

I had the same problem when I got my bike, I tried for days to open it with the key and used tons of WD40 and other products. I finally got to the point that I was just going to drill out the hidden screw and replace the cap, just before I started the drill my grandfather told me to try the key one last time and magically it opened! Haha just keep at it and ull open it and once you do use liquid graphite in the lock to keep it from happening again.

Talking Yay!

Success!! I did it. It opens super smooth and easy now. Now I don't just have a two-wheeled paper weight... I actually have a motorcycle. Lol
