sounds about right with the stock sprockets. I just changed my front sprocket to a 15 teeth over the stock 14 tooth. Lowered my averaged RPM's by about 10 thousand. So at 70mph, I'm running roughly 8,000

I was running 8k going 55. I just put on a 15 and now I'm running about 60. I only have 100 miles on. Am I shifting wrong or is that normal?

well my bike is the '88-'07 model, so I guess there's about a 1,000 rpm difference on average.

I can't recall the exact difference in the two engines(feel free to google it), but it has something to do with one having more top end and one having more acceleration. If yours has higher rpm's than mine, then it must be the new ninjas that accelerate faster, but have a lower top speed.

Although, a bigger sprocket in the front and/or a small rear sprocket will increase top speed while lowering acceleration

If you are in sixth gear and this is the case something is wrong. My bike has a problem when it warms up to some temperature. When cold In 6th gear i run 4.5k at 40mph and when its hot 5.0k at 40mph. Its got something to do with my IC/IGNITER.

Just an update on my previous comment. my bike hits 8k going 55 with a. 15 front sprocket. Kawasaki said a few 2012 models received Bad tachs. And can cause it to run up to 3000 rpm high. Mine is being replaced next week.
