part I can't figure out and can't shift into second gear

Ok so by the kick stand are there is a part I can't find on the Kawasaki owners PDF files. It is hardwired in has a bump pushpin to bolt holes on each side. if anybody knows what this is or where it goes that would be great I'll try to include a pic.

Also I got this 04 ninja 250 on a straight across trade for a crf50 pit bike I had set up to do stints on. I have rebuilt the starter, drain the tank and put new fuel in, replace the CDI box and it's now running and running good I might add. I have now found that the bike will not shift into second gear though. The bike is in my house on the center stand, so it's not running while I'm trying to shift it. Does it need to be running to shift second gear? Any ideals on that would be muchly appreciated I'm dying to go ride this thing. Thanks again and have a great day.

Yes it needs to be running to shift.

The switch in question is your kickstand switch

I'm not your mom and I'm not paying for your parts, so do whatever you want with your own bike.

My 2c - the 250r has some sort of mechanism that wont let it shift out into anything other than first/neutral unless you are moving. Never heard of it until i got one.
