fire ball from intake and airbox

ok so i have an interesting problem, i have been working on a ninja 250 for a while now and last week i had it running as good as it ever has. almost prefect. well i got home this week and started putting everything together to test it on the road and when i went to start it it would not start at all. and when it finally did it would run fine for a few minutes then die for no reason. when i pulled the plugs they were wet as if it were flooding, i dont know if the larger take could cause this,(was using a 1/4 gallon for testing), the real problem came a bit later when i was trying to start it again i sprayed a little mist gas into the airbox and when i tried to start it a huge fire ball came out. then i took the carbs off and sprayed a little gas into the intakes and the same happened it came back out as fire. i have no idea what this could be but it is clearly not good.
