Gas can get in the airbox by way of Reversion.

Is the filter saturated with gas or does it lightly smell like gas and oil. If it is the later, you may want to look at gas in your crankcase oil. Your carbs may be overflowing back into the airbox. This happen because of a faulty petcock and carb float valves.

Garage
Only reason for this is you have a stuck float, or not adjusted properly, float needles are cheap, go pick some up change BOTH and set your float height properly.

I'm not your mom and I'm not paying for your parts, so do whatever you want with your own bike.
