I've gone to Houston twice. About 7 hours from where I am. I've also to been to San Antonio a few times which is about 4 1/2 to 5 hours away, and I've done that 5 times.
Butterflies really do suck, but whenever I stop and get gas, I usually get a paper towel out of the windshield cleaning thing and dip it in the solution and wipe off my helmet and my bike. If you drive at night and you have tons of guts on your visor, it'll blind you if there are street lights. Scary stuff sometimes. But without street lights, you're fine in terms of vision and NOT in terms of animals crossing the road. I dodged a deer on my last trip. I have close calls at least once a week when city-driving, but I see those coming and know how to avoid them. The deer thing was, in my mind, the closest I've come to death on my bike.
