Thinking CBR600F2 to Ninja 250, Crazy?

Hey Guys and Gals, I've been riding now (in L.A.) for about 2 years now and ended up, after having an old KZ305 that I rebuilt and same with an old Shadow 750, with a '92 CBR600F2 Rat-bike. Gotta admit that I find it heavy (yes, I'm a fit, 165lb, Aussie dude...) and a bit f'ing scary in the turns! My packed, L.A freeway commute involves mostly lane splitting with the occasional 75-80mph early morning run home from the bar (working, not drinking!). I am seriously considering downsizing to a Ninja 250 as we've just bought a house and I'll be heading back to get a degree this year and money is tight, time is tight, and keeping a rat-bike running is a bit of a pain. My question, will the Ninjette seriously give me the shits or not? I like riding my girl's Rebel but I hate the little cruiser riding position, and I really want to learn proper cornering but that CBR is pretty serious if you twitch the throttle at all in second and always just feels top-heavy and dangerously 'tippy' to me. Any advice before I sell-and-buy? Or should I just stick with what I have and do the work? Cheers!

from what you're saying you want: save money, save time, learn cornering, etc. The 250 sounds perfect. It's one of if not the best commuter and you can do anything on it like cornering. It'll also go 75-80 for hours (it's faster than the rebel). I'd say go for it

I'm a new rider I've had my 2012 for a few months and I really love riding. Its rather comfy. It corners super easy and it'll make highway speeds no prob. My only complaint is I already want an upgrade. I need to accelerate fast and it doesn't get it for me. The price is amazing. 4500 after tax. Insurance for me is 150 yr and I'm 19. MPG is 55-60. If ur not worried about the speed I'd say there isn't a better option out there. And it looks sweet.

Just want to update and let you know I borrowed my buddy's '03 Ninjette on my way to work yesterday. It's a weird feeling having the revs up that high but I get how much it comes alive above 7 grand... Wow! My commute home after work is a 15 mile freeway run on the CA 101- I was a bit worried but, man, got up to freeway speed by 3rd gear and in 6th at 80mph I still had 4 grand to go before red-line! I don't know how on earth people could say these don't go well on the freeway, and this is after being on my cbr600! I was easily moving around slow freeway traffic and didn't even downshift up the Hollywood Hill bit of the 101- hell, I was flying past the cagers! I'm now convinced that people who rag on the Ninja 250's either have never ridden one or just plain don't know how to ride. The only thing I missed was the cbr's extra weight taking freeway turns but when I realized it didn't need it, it was fine!

I ride mostly country roads here in rural Ohio and I'm always passing cars. The bike may not have the acceleration of a 600 but it has plenty for me to pass 3 cars or semis. If u go ninja ull nvr go back. But u may want a aftermarket windscreen. I have a 2012 and the windscreen doesn't do much once u hit 65. *just a note seems like ur gonna be penny pinching. I'm 19 and a new rider and insurance is $150 a year with geico. And I paid 4200 for my bike brand new.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. 600 to little ninja. I'm actually looking at the new(here in the US) ninja 300. Looks to be an awesome little bike. Plus from what I've been reading the little ninjas are a blast to ride. Good luck.

Later,

These bikes are great for almost anything. Not the most pleasureable ride when you have a semi passing in the lane beside you cause of the lightweight. My only complaint. 60 mpg crazy low insurance and the easiest bike to work on and mod for cheap. I turn more heads than the guys on the 600s at school. Everyone loves my bike and tries to buy it.
