To Ride or not to Ride?

Here's my situation. I took the MSF course August 2011. I past and been saving for a moto and I will be picking it up next well sometime. So, I have not ridden a moto since my course last year (which was the first I sat or rode a bike) but need to get my bike home. I want to ride it home, but I also want to be safe.

The ride home from the shop is approximately 12 miles away. I can get home either by highway or local.

Anyone been in this situation and h e taken the bike home? I'd like to get opinions and advice either for or against me taking the bike home rather than other means.

Don't take the highway, for sure.

I'd say when you go to pick up your bike, ride around the shop and side streets to see how you feel. If you feel ok, then take it back home via the local.

That's what I'm thinking. But I need to make sure I make the safest decision.

if you've taken the MSF course, I'd imagine the only thing you'd have to get used to is getting the bike going from first gear and not stalling the bike. I'd take the residential route, but find a parking lot first and just practice for a few minutes. I think you'll be fine

Unless you can find someone with a truck to strap it down to.

My first ride after taking the course was also picking up my bike, but it was 100 miles north on a highway. I hopped on, took a few turns and acted like I had done it before. It's like riding a bike. You'll be fine.

A few laps on the parking lot and around the corner should allow me to get familiar with the clutch engagement/friction zone. I was thinking having my wife drive behind me as an added protection. Unless she runs me over haha!

Holy shit that's a hell of a 1st ride but it only counts if you never rode a bike prior to that (lol)
