Should I get it or wait?

In a little over 3 months Im going to boot camp for the Marine Corps. When I make it through Ill have earned almost $4800. Ive got about $3000 save up now which will be plenty of money to startup, Im looking at 2011 250R or newer.

What I want to know is should I get the bike when I get out of boot camp or wait? I graduate the day after thanksgiving. Friends and family have been about even in either saying do it or dont.

This is my first post so please go easy.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to wait until you've finished everything, (Basic, SOI, 'A' school). Once you get to your PDS (permanent duty station), get your bike and then immediately take the Basic Rider Course. It will be required by the base. Until you get squared away you won't have much time to enjoy the bike.

Thanks for the advice. I actually won a 2012 Chevy Cruse at the "Chevy Drive for Perfection". You have no idea how excited I was. CarMax gave me $13,500 for it so Im looking at bikes now.

Do you know what your MOS will be? Are you going active duty or reserve?

I am contracted active duty as an E-2 0621 set to go to boot camp 27 August. Wasnt really sure what I wanted to do but I knew I didnt want to be an officer. As far as why I chose the marines, Ill be 3rd generation. When it came to choosing the job I basically said not boring but not so basic a monkey could handle it.

I had a young cousin who wanted to join the Marines last year. He too wanted to be a round dodger and moving target. Dude is a beast. He would have been a fine Marine, but he don't breathe well. DQ'd because of asthma.

I must say, you not only chose a dangerous sport, but a job/ branch of service as well. For a while, Marines suffered the highest number of fatalities both on the battlefield and on motorcycles. Just be prepared to stay deployed. A lot! A word of advise....If you make it your first 4 years as a Field Radio Operator, make a lateral move upon re-enlistment and do something else that will prepare you for life as a civilian.

Best of luck to you. Stay motivated and remember every lesson is something else that will either save you life or someone else's.

Oh I planned on a lateral move when i re-enlist. 0621 is not a job to make a career out of. Im honestly not sure what i'll change to, but hey thats what the next for years are for.
