First Gear Question

I down shifting from 5th while approaching a light and each time i shift hear the transmission distinctively click as it should down to 1st gear. I'm sitting at the light and go to accelerate and yet the bike acts like its in neutral.. it takes me a couple seconds to kick it into gear eventually by kicking down on the gear shift and reving the engine... question is, did i just need to double clutch there or did i down shift improperly? i don't know exactly

I think this happens to everybody at least a couple times. Whenever you're at a stop light and it's about to turn green, just go ahead and kick it down like you mean it all the way into first gear. For some reason, the bike likes to slip into neutral when it's in first or second. It does it somewhat often, but just get used to correcting it quickly and do whatever you can to prevent it.
