Hello, my new ride

Hi folks,
Just picked up a new Ninja 250 today.
This will be my third bike. I've had a GSXR 600 and a R6 before but they were both used and I sold them a few years ago. Glad to be riding again and a new bike this time.

Welcome!

Nice bike! I didn't like to 2010 colors but that looks alright.

How do you like the 250 compared to your 600's?

Thanks! I dig it too!
Of coarse not as powerful as a 600 and seems a little funny how high it revs just to do 70mph on the freeway but I still like it a lot! It handles mountain roads no problem.

Still getting used to it! Getting a lil more power to it with each ride as I break it in
There's a little more power there to it than I initially thought.

My engine turns right around 8000 rpms at an indicated 70mph. (Which is actually closer to 65mph in real life, at least so on mine) I have found that if I keep my engine spinning around 9 or 10 K on the twisties, I can kinda keep up with the bigger bikes I ride with. I finally wore down my right chicken strip. The left one is still there.

Does the black paint on your bike have a little bit of white pearl in it?

Not that I notice really. I think it's just glossy black with the gray trim and gray tribal designs besides the red.

They had the green SE, this red/black SE and two regular ones that were red and blue. I thought this color looked the best out of the four. Next up I would have chosen the blue one probably.

I'm still using my unmatching blue GSXR leather jacket though.. don't tell anyone. lol

Just did my first oil change myself at 250mi! The took it up another mountain road again. About 350 miles on it now. Kept it under 4k for the first 100 then went to varying RPM's the next from 5-8-5k and then from 5-10-5k and then from 7-12-7 a handful of times and then back down to 5-10-5 and 5-8-5.

Can't wait until the first service at 500-600 miles is done. Thinking of just doing it myself but I don't know how to make sure my forks are properly adjusted yet. Think I can handle everything else..

Hey if anyone's in Socal around Riverside and wants hook up for a ride sometime I'm down! I think I see a few local people on this board.

Woot!
So I got 500 miles on it as of tonight!

I took it to Lytle creek for the first 100mi
Jenks Lake near big bear and back for the second 100mi
Idlywild for the third 100mi
Around town and freeway for the fourth 100mi
and today I took it to Lake Gregory and back for the last 100mi.

Oil changed at 250mi

Time to lube the chain since it's 500!

Then take it for service at 600!

I got my butt kicked today by a pickup truck at the stop light. Felt kinda funny but oh well. I'll have to get used to that lol.

Once your 600 mile tune up is done you shouldn't have to worry about too many pickup trucks at redlights. It's surprising how quick you can take off when you keep your shifts in the 9 - 11,000 rpm range. Bigger bikes are another story but cars and trucks aren't much of a problem after your bike is broken in.

Think I'm headed out to buy some fluids, filters and lift stands now!
Gonna do the chain lube when I practice using the stand for first time then ride another 100mi and bring it home for self servicing!

I can't be trusting random mechanics Would rather do it all myself!

Yeah I don't know what happened with the punk in the truck who was all over me. I just let him by and then I got back on it and had no problem keeping up with him. Maybe just seems odd for me to rev it so high in the lower gears. I think I'm used to getting through them quickly.. not to mention I'm used to a 600!
Anyways, racing and playing is not my intention.

Neat little bike though, I love it!
Sure is nimble in the turns. (I've definitely leaned her over quite a bit already even though it's a little early but I've had bikes before)
Gonna spend the next few days making sure everything is tight/loctite/torqued/play spec'd and lined up for the next few hundred miles.
I've already changed the oil twice!
