2001 ninja 250 tracker...ish build (in progress)

Well I've been tinkering with this thing for the past few months and finally decided to start somewhat of a build thread:

Picked up this 01...didn't start, blown head gasket, blown fork seals, rough body and no exhaust.

Oil when I drained it

Came with a non running spare motor....I think I found the problem

Stripped the red paint off the tank

more in next post...

Thats all i can think of for right now. Let me know what you think and I'll post up when I get more work done

Paint removal

It looks as if you were able to strip the red paint off without damaging the original green. If this is the case please explain the process/chemicals used as i am picking up one of these that some retard spray painted black(what else).
Thank you, Butch

I stripped the red paint off using carb cleaner. I got lucky because the previous owner painted the tank and didn't prime or clear coat it so the carb cleaner worked pretty well. However it did take some of the original clear coat off so up close the paint looks a bit dull

What gauge did you replace the instrument cluster with? Are you satisfied with it? Just picked up a 05 that I want to turn into a street fighter.
