Caucasian modification

I cut the end off one of my stock cans and removed some of the baffling. Gives it a louder tone, albeit a raspy sound. I'm going to cut the exiting pipe off the end and weld in a larger diameter pipe. Should give it a deeper tone.

Why go through all of this when you can get an aftermarket one for pennies.

That's not the point here. The goal is to see what i can do with the stock. Its not always about money. I love to modify, build and tweak stuff. Some people play xbox. I work in my shop.

I like the creativity. Remember that you'll need to rejet the carbs when you're done modifying the exhaust.

Yeah. The carbs have always had a flat spot. I'm going to tear it down and clean the carbs and do a rejet then. Good looking out.
I'm going to tweak it in a few days again and see where i end up.

Nice. I'm eager to see the finished product. The flat spot may have had something to do with the carbs not being synced. Which could also hint at a need for a valve adjustment, or an adjustment not done properly.

Just possibilities.

Thanks tadster. The bike is an 09. Had 650 miles when i bought it last year. It has 5,200 miles now. I need to check the service manual but i think its getting time to check the valves. I know the carbs need work but it never got cold enough, long enough to put it down this winter.
As sion.as i get a new chain set for the 650 i have some work to catch up on the ninjette. I cut all the baffling out this morning, just left the exit pipe intact. Louder but not annoying. Still a little raspy, i plan on using the larger diameter pipe from the baffling as the exit pipe. Should make it a little deeper, waiting on my compressor belt to come in to use the cutting wheel.
Worst case is i don't like it and i will just take the canister back off.

if you bought it with 650, then it probably never had the break-in valve adjustment done, so I'd get to that asap and hopefully all the rocker arms are still intact. Usually, a valve adjustment should be done every two oil changes or every 6,000 miles.

For the carbs, if the bike ever sat for two weeks straight without running, there's a possibility that the carbs are dirty and will need a cleaning.
