EX250 extra tail/brake lights

Bought two-wire sockets from autozone and some dual filament bulbs. Also bought some extra wire to add the ground wire to the socket(just tape the stripped wire to the socket and will solder it later).

To test the socket for the brighter filaments you can use a night volt battery. Just put the base of the socket resting on the negative, and then touch the end of the one of the wires to the positive. Whichever wire lights up the bulb the brightest is the one to hook up to the brake light

I tied a loose not in the brighter filament wire and then proceeded to connect the wires to the tail light.

I added extra wire when installing the left(rider side) socket, because the connector is on the right side of the bike. You do not want to connect all the wires as if the stock connector goes straight out. Again, it goes a little towards the right.

The sockets will not fit properly inside the pods. The holes of the pods are too big. I went back to autozone and bought some fairly big rubber grommets. I eye-measured the size and hoped it would squeeze the socket firmly enough. They did. I glued them on to the top of the pod holes and stuck the sockets though. The the sockets fit even better once I attached the ground wire.

Here's some pics(there are quite a few FAIL connectors where I messed up lol)

Sockets already installed, but needing the ground wire. Without the ground wire, only one of the filaments will work. So either the brake light will turn on the lights, or the running lights will and applying the brake will turn them off. You NEED the ground wire

Taped this to the side of the socket with electrical tape.

There should be two connectors per wire

brake lights:

The wiring overview is as follows:
Connect the brightest filament wires to the blue brake light wire
Connect the lower filament wires to the red running light wire
Connect your added on ground wires to the black-yellow ground wire.

It's MUCH easier to remove the entire tail light. All it involves is unscrewing two nuts and then pulling it out.

If you do this and find a three-wire socket let me know. Autozone had some, but they would be impossible to fit onto the pod and I didn't want to drill or alter the actual tail in any way other than the gluing that I did.
