Jetting

Does this really help with acceleration or is this a waste of mod. I want to put a K&N FILTER on my bike or is shimming the needles just as effective.

K&N always a good call, Adjusting the pilot jets, and shimming the needles is a good starting point, and it's easy, and cheap to do, try that first.

I guess the only way to tell for sure is to ride a jetted bike and compare it to yours! Then see if it's something you want to consider doing? My daughter has a well maintained and tuned up stock 2009 250r which I ride a number of times each season. Mine is a a 2012 jetted 250r. The difference is noticeable. Especially in the throttle response. Definitely snappier! Is it a fire breathing dragon of a race bike because of this? No. Do I regret having this done? Absolutely not! Boils down to personal preference. Keep in mind if you do decide to jet somethings need to be considered like altitude and modifications to your bike.

The 250 is lean from the factory, if adjusting, and shimming doesn't do it for you, go up one jet size on the mains.

Thanks everyone for the insight. Now is this something I do myself or pay a shop or find a ninjette that already did their bike in my area because I am very mechanically inclined I just need steps and process and I'm good to go..

Take a look on the wiki page

http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Main_Page

Some great tips there, and have you any experience with carbs?
