difference in model year specs

iv'e got an 01 ex250 and just picked up another, an 05. both bikes look identical except the 01 has a 14k red line and the 05 has a 12k red line. is there a thread giving the specs for the different years. guess i have a jones for 250's, my last bike was a wr250x, loads of fun.

Kawasaki has actually changed the redline of the Ninja 250 over the production years. It's one of several things which has changed.

One of the reasons for the rev limiter cutoff change, is that Kawasaki has discovered that at the upper limits of the RPM range, the lubrication system may not be able to supply enough oil to some parts of the engine. Also The accepted point at which power ceases to increase is about 12,500 rpm.

That's strange. As far as I know, all EX250's sold in the US from '88-'07 have a 14k redline. I have an '07 and the redline is set at 14k

Technically the 12k is not the redline...just where the dashing starts on the gauge suggesting a "warning" to shift soon. Redline never fell under 13k from what I understand.

Went for a ride today on the freeway and realized the Rev limiter kicks in at 14k but the red starts at 13k on the tack
