hole in center of clutch cover

a friend of mine has a hole in the side cover for the clutch, are they known to break there, or does it have a clutch problem? center of clutch and clutch rod. thanks joe.

Is the rod in the center of clutch plates spring loaded? If so could it have busted it if the pulled the clutch rod out of the housing? The rod that the cable hooks to.

Got pictures? Could have happened a drop? Either way get a used cover off eBay, but be sure to remove the old one, and have a look for possible causes, and solutions.
