5) cut the backing plate along the perforated dots for easy cutting.

7) take aluminum can and cut to desired length. Measure twice cut once!

8 ) remove cat.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a267/H8DCelica94/shotieExhaust020.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a267/H8DCelica94/shotieExhaust020.jpg)
9) cut perforated tube to size.

10) cut fiberglass to size and roll onto perf tube really tight. The trick is to keep that extended part of the end cap to keep the fiber glass secured.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a267/H8DCelica94/shotieExhaust003.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a267/H8DCelica94/shotieExhaust003.jpg)
11)Peice together and weld it up.

Thats all there is to it.
I cannot take all the credit for this modification. I may be the first to cut the can to a smaller size, but there have been others who cut the can and gutted the insides before me. Please give credits to redrider from newninja.com that made this mod look so easy. And to HKr1 from kawiforums for giving me the initial idea to have a shorter exhaust.

What did you use to weld the end back to the aluminum can?

i suggest having a professional do the work.

BUT.... i have tried using a muffler welding putty and JBWeld.

welding putty sucked balls and didnt do shit. Thats the reason some of the fiberglass hasblack crap on it.

JBWeld is holding up very well. I havenothad any problems as of yet.

I WOULD STILL RECOMMEND HAVING A PRO DO IT!

Also me and chris are going to try and make the stock can sound good by gutting it and using a straight pipe rapped in fiber glass we'll let you guys know how good it works with video for the people who like the stock look but with a sexy deep aftermarket sound

do you have to buy the fiberglass pack and perforated tube or can you use whats in the exhaust.

I would recommend using the fiberglass because it quiets the can a lot. If you didn't have any fiberglass you'd probably set off a few car alarms if you know what I mean.:naughty2 You really cant use whats in the can because there is 4 different tubes in one can...its weird don't ask...anyways just got a muffler shop and I'm sure you can buy a 1.5" perforated tube pretty cheap. No more than $15

woah, this thread is so way off topic...

Scott- The fiberglass can be obtain in any motorcycle parts place that has dirt bike stuff. I got mine from Fun Bike Center. The cost can vary. You can also use steel wool. But results will differ from mine. The reason you cant just use the original stuff is because they are just baffles. its big hunk of welded up stuff thats really heavy. If you want to talk about weight savings the modified can is around 7 lbs or less. The stock is around 12lbs or so.

PM me if you have any more questions. or get at me on AIM, SN = H8Dninja250r

oh yea...

VTEC - i know that this would be ghetto, but.... would you be able to make an entire vinyl mask to cover the entire leftside fairing? i know thats alot of area to cover, but if its a cheaper alternative to getting the fairing painted/replaced. i would be up for it.

I think you're thinking about vinyl wraping, which is a different type of vinyl compare to the one we use for decals. The "wraps" are thicker and come only in white so it can be printed and then put on a vehicle. The're designed for large are coverage, so it's a different beast all together. Unfortunately, we can't do that because of the different material. We can do some area, but not the whole thing do to the complexity of the motorcycle fairings in general.

Just buy 4 stroke packing and your good to go. I shortened my can about 2 months ago but I used stainless 2" for the through pipe.

OH and the stock exhaust is all steel no aluminum. It is just chrome.

I got the blue because everything I have ever owned has been yamaha,so I am partial to blue. But I do see alot of them, so probably come spring time it may be a little different. If I can get time away from my bobber project.

And thanks on the can it sure makes it look alot better, and I am sure doing this mod to a stock can gets it real close to the aftermarket power.

I know I'm a little late, but this is a great Ninja 250 modification thread! If I can muster up the courage to cut parts of my bike I might give it a shot.

Will doing this make the bike louder or just a deeper sound?

I plan to do this while waiting/debating on a slip on system does this mod produce a more deep sounding exhaust?

It should do both.

I did this to my vance and hines supersport. It was much louder and had a deep tone. If you pack it tight, less will go through the baffle and go straight out.
