91stealthtt 07-24-2008, 10:45 PM yea remember some of these people from our forums are not experienced riders most of them this is the first bike they have ever ridden. so the pace might be a little slow

Vtec44 08-02-2008, 07:55 PM That's a perfect size group. I hate riding in HUGE group, looks fun on pix but too many people to manage the ride properly.
91stealthtt 08-02-2008, 09:12 PM yea I think it will be a good turn out.
Werewolf 08-02-2008, 09:27 PM Did you use loc-tite?

Malaqui 08-03-2008, 10:30 AM Can the first page be edited to have all the info. E.I. map, schedule, meet up, itinerary, people.
Just so that this thread is cleaned up and the information is readily available for the new people.

Werewolf 08-03-2008, 09:26 PM Whats the earliest you will accept riders? Im pretty awesome when it comes to being way to early because Im paranoid ill be way to late!
91stealthtt 08-03-2008, 09:37 PM Whats the earliest you will accept riders? Im pretty awesome when it comes to being way to early because Im paranoid ill be way to late!
Earliest I think will be like 9 because I'm going to wash my bike and make it pretty that morning to make sure that my tire pressure is good and all my fluids are filled. Which doesn't take long but I'm still going to do it early so its done with when everyone is ready to go. Also is Krissy coming?

It will be. This road is pretty new to all of the riders, except for me and Malaqui. Oh and how do you like my new sig pic.
Werewolf 08-03-2008, 09:49 PM aha I love it.
91stealthtt 08-03-2008, 09:52 PM Thought you would. Yea so don't worry about the pace. Once we all get going and get use to it a little we will probably pick it up a tad. But we'll see.
Werewolf 08-03-2008, 09:55 PM Ill film that day :)... and Ill try to setup Krissys camera so she can film as well.
91stealthtt 08-03-2008, 09:57 PM Ill film that day :)... and Ill try to setup Krissys camera so she can film as well.
Malaqui has got a camera also, I'll see if he wants to film or if I can use it because I'm going to lead.
Whats the earliest you will accept riders? Im pretty awesome when it comes to being way to early because Im paranoid ill be way to late!
That's how my grandpa used to be. It was insane. :rant2
Werewolf 08-03-2008, 10:53 PM I actually caught that habit from my grandpa haha
91stealthtt 08-03-2008, 10:54 PM I caught mine from my dad who probably got his from his dad who is my grandpa......grandpa's are funny that way.
91stealthtt 08-04-2008, 05:10 PM Zmoe might make it sweet!
Malaqui 08-04-2008, 06:34 PM I just rode Highland valley today. Its gonna be a fun ride on sunday!

91stealthtt 08-04-2008, 08:04 PM I just rode Highland valley today. Its gonna be a fun ride on sunday!
Hey Chris do you want to bring up the rear of the ride or do you want to lead. Its always good if you have someone that knows the ride lead and tail, just in case something bad happens and the group gets split in apart. Let me know if you are down.
Malaqui 08-05-2008, 12:18 AM hmmmm.... We should have the head and tail with communicators of some sort.
If anything i would take tail.
there is one turn that i found to be trouble. its a real tight turn uphill.
I would bring my chatterbox but the mounting bracket broke when I highsided, and I can't find the PTT button that velcros onto the clip-on.
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 10:50 AM there is always the good ol' fashion cell phone. I'll have mine on loud and vibrate and up against my chest so I will feel it, unless someone else here has some chatter box that me and you could use. Also is that up hill turn you were talking about in the beginning of the ride.
Malaqui 08-05-2008, 12:05 PM not sure as to where it is exactly, but its right where you make you accend up the mountain.
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 12:35 PM On highland valley. Because I think I know what part you are talking about.
KawiKrissy 08-05-2008, 07:34 PM cameras will be nice. it'll be interesting seeing the ride from different perspectives/positions within the group.
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 07:43 PM cameras will be nice. it'll be interesting seeing the ride from different perspectives/positions within the group.
I love different positions:naughty2.........OHHH riding....Yea....His camera works pretty well as I'm sure you notice with me almost being hit.....fucking honda....Anyways yes there will be a camera or two.

Yea well it all started with this thread about "The Bat Cave" and Vtec44. Your just going to have to read it.http://www.250r.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 09:21 PM Ok everyone I found the place where we are going to eat lunch at and I have been there before its pretty good, basic lunches but good pie. They did have a lunch special for $8.95 which included half a sandwich, either soup or salad, a bag of chips and a slice of pie of your choosing - a pretty good deal but not including a drink. So it is also inexpensive, all we really need is water anyways to stay hydrated during the warm afternoon ride.

91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 09:59 PM Yup, thats where we are going. It's nice though because no traffic:evilgrin. But its a cool place if you have never been there before.
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 10:04 PM BTW, if we start this at 12p there's no way we'll make it out of SD before 5pm.

Vtec44 08-05-2008, 10:10 PM yeah, beat the heat!!
91stealthtt 08-05-2008, 10:14 PM I will be accepting riders at 9 AM because I will be cleaning my bike and stuff. If everybody just HAPPENS to get there early then I guess we will have to start the ride early. ;)
Malaqui 08-08-2008, 12:00 AM i'll be there at 6am ringing your doorbell.

Ok well do. That would be nice of you to do. Also contact Werewolf, he lives near you. I'm sure you could ride down with him and his Fiense.

Cool, thanks. Werewolf and I have already discussed the topic.
Well, Walmart fired me. I might be able to go after all.
91stealthtt 08-08-2008, 07:41 PM Change of plans. When we come back home we are going to take the 78 back to San Pasqual rd to bear valley pwy to the 15 south. It will be a better ride, more twisties if we take that way home. I'll show everyone once we all get together on the 17th.
Werewolf 08-08-2008, 09:24 PM I like twisties :)
I like twisties :)

Yea No shit. This turned out much bigger than I thought it would be....Post number 101 of this thread.
Vtec44 08-10-2008, 12:01 AM Zmoe, I guess you'll have to do the usual safety speech. We'll count the people and wait for everyone at major intersections. I went over the map and there are a few places that people can make a wrong turn and get lost. I'll bring some print outs just in case.
Rimantas 08-10-2008, 06:09 AM Gah, change of plans for me. Looks like I won't be making it out to this one. Sorry guys and gals :(

What do you mean I'll have to do? This isn't my ride. :slap
We'll see how the SD boys do. Then if I feel like I have to add anything, I will.
:b1te
Werewolf 08-10-2008, 08:47 AM Well, I definitely was hoping for smaller group. I haven't ridden in a big group before but heard it gets frustrating.
91stealthtt 08-10-2008, 09:47 AM Just to let you guys know. We ARE leaving at noon so if someone comes late, tough. I'm sorry if I sound rude but everybody knows when they are suppose to get here so I don't feel like holding up the group for other people.
Werewolf 08-10-2008, 10:29 AM But we are meeting at your house ;)
Maybe we should meet at a starbucks or something
Well, I definitely was hoping for smaller group. I haven't ridden in a big group before but heard it gets frustrating.
It's only frustrating if you have a-holes there that don't respect the rest of the group. If there's a riders meeting, strong language may be needed to make sure everyone understands safety is above coolness.
Werewolf 08-10-2008, 12:00 PM I am requesting to be at the back then... or at least second from back! I like to be in the back so I can just ride my own ride and not worry about slowing anyone up. Im more into cruising then trying to get to point b as fast as I can :)

91stealthtt 08-11-2008, 01:38 PM Wow. That made me swoon.
huh??? swoon??
Swoon:
1.to faint; lose consciousness.
2.to enter a state of hysterical rapture or ecstasy- I.E. The teenagers swooned at the sight of the singing star.
hehehe I learned a new word :D
SubZero 08-11-2008, 02:31 PM Swoon
feel faint with joy: to be overwhelmed by happiness, excitement, adoration, or infatuation
Swoon
To be overwhelmed by ecstatic joy, a state of ecstasy or rapture. Used online as an action, to show that someone is attracted or interested in someone or something

gsxr_fan2005 08-12-2008, 01:32 AM sup guys..hopefully il make it this weekend
Malaqui 08-12-2008, 07:37 PM So there might be 2 cruisers in the group.
Werewolf 08-12-2008, 07:44 PM If I can get a confirmation on those cruisers I might be able to convince my dad to go on his harley ;)
Hes an old road racer. Used to race at Willow Springs in the 80s for the ARRA and held plate #16 on a Yamaha Rz350. Mmmmm 2 stroke godlyness.
So cruisers? Yes? No? Need to know! :scooter
Vtec44 08-12-2008, 07:59 PM Personally, I don't care what you ride as long as you ride and ride safe! :scooter :thumb
On another note, a nice Harley rider waved at me today and I waved back. :scooter
Werewolf 08-12-2008, 08:08 PM http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080812/ap_on_fe_st/odd_recovered_ring
They aren't all bad :)
I can confirm the one coming with me is on a Harley 883.
SubZero 08-13-2008, 10:25 AM You both need to sword fight over her.
Will this be a fight to the death!?!?!?!?
Depends on what the winner gets. :naughty
91stealthtt 08-13-2008, 12:28 PM Depends on what the winner gets. :naughty
Well if she can ride a motorcycle, she can definitely ride a c.......Oh look a meet on August 17th.....:D
You were going to say cycle weren't you? Not everyone who rides a motorcycle can pedal a cycle, so you shouldn't just generalize like that.

Final count with me is 3.5. jchung on her yellow 250, islandgrrl on her GSXR600, and islandgrrl's man on his Harley 883. Then the .5 is a major flake who says he's coming (not actually with me), but I wouldn't bet on it. His name rhymes with "duh aws"

Vtec44 08-16-2008, 10:30 PM It's going to be a 4th one. I haven't posted anything cuz I thought I was going to find a replacement on time. I found out I had a flat while checking on the bike this afternoon. Most places were closed at around 6pm, so I'm going to try to get some tires tomorrow. Hopefully they'll either 130/80/17 or 140/80/17 in stock, or I will also be out. :(

Bummer well i hope you can get your tire. this meet seems like its not going to go well.....
It seems as if the more spontaneous meets end up having a better outcome. Try making a random meet/ride some time in the near future and see what happens.
Minus Jamestech there's still 13-14 people... that's not a failed ride, it's just a better ride. :noteeth
James, you should still come but leave early and have 91steathtt tell you where a shop is down there. I doubt anywhere is open this early out by you. If you can't get a tire down there, at least you can rock support truck.

He should have rocked the Blue Steel look. :noteeth
When someone has John's contact info, get him to sign up here (either one of them) and have them post up how he's doing.
markCBR 08-17-2008, 09:08 PM I think John with the 250 said he's already on this forum.. the other John I've got contact with and will try to get an update.
Vtec44 08-17-2008, 09:46 PM So what happened to John?
So what happened to John?
Which one? :noteeth
Early in the ride Jonathan went wide and slid in some dirt but was able to correct it and not go down. John was right behind him and target fixated, thus going wide also but he wasn't so lucky and ended up going down. He had what looked like a broken wrist or arm right at the wrist, and his ankle was the size of a softball. A friend of his was a EMT and Jonathan called him out. When he arrived, he patched John up a bit and took him to the hospital.
That's the account from me and what I was told happened, I didn't see it as I was farther ahead in the pack. islandgrrl was behind him and the above is pretty much what she told me.
A guy (Jesus) that lived in the area happened to be driving by and offered to take the bike for us. He rides also, and said because of that he felt obligated to stop and help. He went home to get tiedowns then came back just as John's EMT friend got there. We loaded the bike into the truck and got Jesus' address/email/phone number. He's going to store it at his place for a day or two until Jonathan can get his truck and go out to get the bike. The most obvious visible damage was both clip-ons were broken, the front was damaged a bit (fairing around the headlight, and the right side had a few cracks in it. I didn't notice much else as I was more concentrated on John.
Whoa... who exactly is John?
markCBR 08-18-2008, 06:58 AM Whoa... who exactly is John?
John who recovered, with the older Ninja 900 was the guest i brought. Met him in MSF. The other John with EX250 the was his buddy.. never met him until yesterday. Hope he's all right.
by the way, i'm Mark and found my way here from sportbikes.net. Nice to meet ya.
Hawkster 08-18-2008, 08:42 AM Sorry to see this. I'd hoped that the ride would go off without incident. I hope that the rider is going to be okay.
How can we prevent this from happening again?
Ride safe,
H~
SubZero 08-18-2008, 08:52 AM How can we prevent this from happening again?
By taking it to the track instead of on the street. No offense meant but that's the truth of it all.
Sorry to hear of the mishap. Glad everyone else had a great time.

We weren't racing the street Sub. We are not stupid, this was a cruise on a twistie road through the country to get to a small little mountain town. John happened to make a mistake riding. He was trying to avoid the accident by going around him instead of slowing down.
Vtec44 08-18-2008, 11:09 AM OMG, this is what happened when I don't show up for a ride. :doh
SubZero 08-18-2008, 12:08 PM I'm not nor did I say anyone was "racing the street". But what was it that caused John #1 to have the incident?????????
You said that he ran wide and had to recover from that (which he was able to). To me, his running wide indicates that he was more then likely going above the posted speed limit for that turn and/or riding above his means on a road he didn't fully know or know at all. That is the type of riding that needs to be taken to the track. If a person is going to ride at any pace above street legal and hugging turns it needs to be taken to the track.

this person had less than 2 weeks of experience... im sure everyone has had 1 oh shit moment when they first started out. Like christian stated, it was a cruise at your own pace. When riding, anything can happen on the track or on the street

That is true. Anything can happen.
My whole point was when a rider is riding their own ride and within their experience /limits the chances of incidents (aside from accidentally dropping your bike and cagers) are extremely slim. On the street there at hundreds more variables (if not more) then there are on the track. So in that riding at any pace that is not street legal is not wise for the experienced or novice.
Stealth - I also was in no way trying to imply anyone was "stupid". So please do not take it that way.
Also. I am talking about the incident with John #1 who was able to recover. I am stating my opinion based on the information provided on the incident.
Vtec44 08-18-2008, 02:05 PM Okay kids, we can definitely take this as a learning experience since this forum will naturally have a higher percentage of new riders. For future group rides, we should have newer riders follow a designated rider at a slightly slower pace. I've had a few "oh shit" moments when I first started riding with other people, but luckily it wasn't too bad. Whatever happened, happened. Lets all not get too critical or defensive. :thumb
If SubZero needs a hug, I'll happily volunteer.

Ok guys since riding a bike is dangerous don't ride it on the streets only ride a motorcycle on a track. If you just want to go get gas, trailer your bike down to the gas station to fill it up don't take the risk of riding it. :nono Better yet sell your bikes.
Vtec44 08-18-2008, 02:50 PM Well, MSF did teach us that there's an inherit risk with riding. You do what you can to manage the risks and not to increase it.
Hawkster 08-18-2008, 03:05 PM I agree with Vtec. This isn't worth getting all butt-hurt about. I crashed two weeks into my riding career as well.
Maybe we need to think about helping newer riders get some crash-free riding experience before they do long canyon rides.
Ride safe,
H~
I agree and disagree. If one has good companionship who's purpose is to help them on the ride, then a long canyon ride can be just as or more beneficial to their experience as local practicing. Similar arguements can be made about putting a new rider on the track, yet SubZero did like 6 track days in 4 months when she first started riding. This ride wasn't a group help ride, it was a general meet/canyon ride.
And actually, this semi-arguement is on the topic of Jonathan, the rider that DIDN'T go down. He's the one with limited experience. I don't see how there's any arguement at all since he in fact didn't crash. He made a mistake, like even the most experienced riders have done, but he was able to save it. Kudos to him.
John, with 3-4 years riding experienced, did crash, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Were he less experienced, there's a good chance he would have hit Jonathan and caused a much worse situation. His experience told him to avoid the 'target', which he did. Although crashing is never associated with 'success', he successfully limited the chaos that could have been.
While he was down, he kept apologizing, if/when he reads this, I said it then and I'm saying it now, he has nothing to apologize for to any of us. He avoided hitting another rider, and he's still alive. I'm glad to have been there to help (even though I got there like 10 minutes after), and I hope he heals well.
Vtec44 08-18-2008, 03:57 PM I hope John is okay. I know the feeling when you try to avoid hitting another rider. At least John was able to minimized it to himself, I wasn't lucky enough to kept the crash to myself years ago. :(

markCBR 08-18-2008, 04:10 PM Huge thanks to ZMoe (and everyone else, too) for their help yesterday after the accident.
Just wanna say that no one was racing. There were riders of every skill level on the cruise and everyone was encouraged to ride at their own speeds... Chris was always the tail. Like any accident, it could have been avoided in hindsight. I hope John recovers quickly and if I hear anything bout his status I'll def post up.
I think we're just going to take my words for it.

That is very true. However, a few positive and sincere words of encouragement to be careful and ride within your limits can go a long way towards helping everyone decide to not do something that can cause them to crash.

markCBR 08-21-2008, 08:28 PM whoa.. wtf happened to this thread?! anyway,
John said to tell you guys he's doing good and healing well... he thanks Z and the rest of you guys. he's got bruised lung, wrist fractured in 3 places (metal plate), some fractures in his ankle and a torn ligament :-o
I really feel bad for him.. I had just met him but he's def a cool guy. hope he gets better soon.
Ouch! Tell him to forget about healing fast and just heal well. Did Jonathan pick his bike up already?
It sucks that he's got so many fractures, but it's great he's doing good and there weren't more problems. He lives to ride another day and that's what matters.
Malaqui 08-21-2008, 10:47 PM Yes, please tell him to get better soon. gimme an address where i can send him some cookies. :0 no seriously!
91stealthtt 08-22-2008, 09:11 AM Well at least they are fractures and not breaks. Fractures heal a lot quicker. Mark tell him I'm sorry that I wont get to see him and give him a card. I'm leaving in 3 days for training tell him I said "Get well soon, and it was great meeting him."
Christian(Monster Ninja)
