Hello everyone!
Great site, I am a new rider looking to purchase a new bike and really like the 250r and with research brought me here.
My friends tell me to stay away and go to a 600 but the insurance is a killer. I feel this would be a great starter bike for a year or two, and with a 250 I am sure I would not be afraid to open her up and take corners I am 5'11" and weigh 240 lbs. and it is for town use no plans to do any trips
What are you thoughts
Thanks

I'm 5'-9" & 195 lbs
I got my 2008 250R for commuting to and from work (about 20+
miles one way) and since that time i have put on almost 5000 miles on my bike... i am only averaging 45-47 mpg and i seem to top out at 100-105 mph... About half my commute is; i am cruising down a hwy at 80-90 mph with an avg 45mph thru stop lights and in town stop and go...

this bike is better suited as a commuter not a long distant bike anyways.

i have already thought about upgrading to a ZX6R ... its more of a money issue then anything... for me

even tho this bike can pretty much blow off any car ...
when u get riding around other bikes your struggling to keep up on the top end...

insurance isn't really an issue for me.

i must say though that if this is your first street bike ... deffinitely go for the 250R to start ....
you will want to upgrade in a year or two... especially if you tend to do a good amount of hwy driving...

250r is fine for you. I'm 6'0 220 I can power wheelie it with a full system and a BRT tis. Cranking out just over 32 HP. For in town use you don't need a 600 but may catch hell from your friend for owning a 250.

I'm 6'2" and 220lbs... it hauls me around just fine. I did ride my buddies R6 yesterday and it's a hell of a difference. I would recommend starting with the 250R if you've never ridden before. You will thank yourself later when you actually know how to handle a bike.

I am 5 11 and use Buell XB foot pegs to lower my feet just a bit.Racing rear sets raise the feet up . And the clip on bars make the reach very nice .

A friend who's 6'2 and over 230 started on an old 250 and he's okay. Of course you're not going to do 0-60 in 4 seconds, but the point is to learn the basics on an easy to handle bike. I have a track only 600RR and still ride my 250. It's fun! :D

0-60 in 4 sec is about right . I get low 14s in the 1/4 . I weigh 200 lb with gear .
