I know a few guys have used the Moto Tune engine break in method without an issue. So, here's a link to it.

This is how I have broke in everything I have ever bought new.It is the proven method. Most of my bikes have been faster than the same bikes broke in the factory way, when they are stock to stock.

I agree with what Zmoe told me last week. He said "The break in period (with bigger cc bikes) is to break in the clutch, therefor the best way to break in the bike is it to ride in stop and go traffic." But with our bike, riding it hard is the best way since we top out at 100MPH instead of 180MPH so we can go threw the gears correctly.

I've followed manufacturer specs for 500 miles and then drive normal.

I did the same with my 250 back in the day, but that's only because I didn't know anyone else that rode and I wasn't on any internet sites. Either way works fine, one is just faster than the other.

I took it a little easy for the first 100 miles. Then rode it like I normally would. That was what the dealer recomended. I am at 1700 miles and runs great!

my bike now has 570 miles on it and its had its first oil change etc. I've revved it to red line before (when it was properly warmed up, and only momentarily) it doesn't seem to have any ill effects but the manual says to keep it below 6k rpm for the next 500-1000 miles and vary the rpm... im concerned because my normal commute has a stretch of hwy...about 15 miles... that is 70-80mph+ and ive been driving the back roads staying around 50-55 which is all u get in 6th gear @ 6k rpm... so im wondering it if i should still wait for the 1000 miles or if you think it would be ok at 8-9k rpm for 10-15mins on a stretch of road....

It should be alright to run it 8-9k. The main thing you want to do is vary the RPM's.

How long is the rest of your commute? 10-15 minutes all the time at 8-9 k until you get past the 1000 mile mark may not be the best. If you have a longer ride and are able to vary your RPM's more, you would probably be alright.

The biggest thing is to not hold it at a steady RPM for an extended period of time.

IMHO..
